31 ci non AVS
« on: September 09, 2008, 10:18:41 am »
I don't know if this should go here or in the coffee shop. Last night a guy gave me a engine less the blower housing. The only reason I took it was because it was a OHV engine. Well How about the numbers are stamp in the valve cover 311707 0125 can't make out the date code. To much rust. How about it is a non AVS engine It has the dog bone in it and it is a 31 in bore 3.570. The breather is in the side of the block and not on top and the dip stick goes it the sump cover and not the block also. I didn't know Briggs ever made a 31 non AVS engine. The number is good I check it with briggs and got a IPL for the engine Good Beginings for a mod x engine.

That is a non-AVS engine.  It will have the dog bone syncro like the flat heads.  I built one like that for Mod-X.  You will need to find a small journal Crankshaft to use the ARC rod.  That is a great engine to build,  There are alot of parts that will work on it.

swap out for a briggs flathead crank, billet bone and do something with the valves and spring. also you use the 28" ohv rod and you will be fine. or you can just put a billet bone in it and work on your valvetrain. if you have an avs motor you could swap out rod and piston.

No guys I think you miss under stood me. I know what to do to but the ARC rod in. It does have the sm journal crank in it. It looks like the std 28 OHV non AVS engine it just that it has a 3.57 bore instead of the 3.44 bore. I was just surprised to find a Non 31 AVS engine. I didn't think briggs ever built them
