i only know of 21", 28" and 31". 28" has 3.44 bore with a 3.06 stroke. 31 has 3.56 bore with same stroke. 21" has a 3.44 bore with 2.264 stroke.
if it is a 21" the model # would be on the valve cover on the side.

Are you sure it's Briggs?? 22 cid would sound more like Tecumseh.

yeah, it's a briggs. my son checked the stroke while i wrote it down..i just asked him again what was the stroke he replied "2.8 something" ..i guess i wrote it down wrong?    >if this helps, i measured the intake valve and it measures 1.450? thanks and sorry fro the misinformation/

CID comes out to 26 with that measurement on stroke.

Several good pictures would help us identify the engine for you.

Displacement Caluclators

Compression Ratio Calculators

Take your pick, those are much easier, but to answer your question... cid is figured by - Bore x Stroke

Couple of ways you can get there Bountyhunter -

Bore/2 or Bore x .5 = Radius ~ then you use the old standard ~ Pi x R2 x Stroke

Or, much simpler since we know the diameter of the bore, not the radius, in such cases -

(Pi x Your Bore)/4 x Stroke ~ (Pi x D)/4 x Stroke
