peerless question
« on: June 01, 2006, 06:37:21 pm »
I converted a JD 111 to move pretty good down the road.  Realized I got the gearing just right so that it does wheelies.  Unfortunately the tranny absolutely gernaded.  It had a peerless 801.  Basically the big differential gear lost a bunch of teeth.  I do know that before all this the big gear was missing 1 tooth but would work fine, this may have contributed to the whole gernading.  Will I have any more success with a peerless 820?

As long as your trying to pop wheelies on it... Probably not!

Did you happen to see this thread by the way?? http://www.heymow.com/viewtopic.php?t=572

Oh crap, found out I got a Dana 4360, not a Peerless 820.  How does the 4360 rate?  At least it is free.

I believe general consensus would be the gears are not quite as strong. Have seen several posts herein indicating purchase of Steel gears and then they stay together relatively well.

820 is stronger than 801...

But starting with a missing tooth is just asking for trouble in any tranny/axle...

i run a 4360  with much luck.buuuttt i think poping wheeles will break any trans axle .when you apply power to the wheels somthing has got to give ether the tire traction or the drive line .the bigger the tire the harder it is on the unit  .when you rev it up and drop the cluch  it's like that game show "you are the weakest link goodbye"

thanks dynamark
