son's new stock mower
« on: July 20, 2008, 08:10:08 pm »
Here is a few pics of a mower i put together for my son to race stock class ARMA.
the paint was stained almost black from where the leaves had settled on it from several years of sitting. after spraying with cleaner and scrubbing several times and rubbing with polishing compound, this is what it looks like.

this is my son Brandon, we were gonna build a rear rider but the rules wont allow it so werswitched to the MTD made TaskforceII.

this nice red MTD had a little more body damage and a bad engine. i pulled the deck, driven pulley, idler and vari-drive pulley from this one and put on the other, also the front axle was junk on the other so another piece from this one was pulled. the front tires came with it in the swap.

the mower he is racing was pulled from the woods behind a mans house about 2 weeks ago. front axle was shot, deck was missing along with the gas tank, flywheel, solenoid, shift plate and all 4 tires were dryrot and would not hold air. all missing pieces were installed, carb was swapped to save time from rebuilding and save money. tires are ones that were laying around and hold air. battery came from another of my racers that is in the process of modification. After kill switch is installed it will be ready for all comers.

Yep. Gremlins, Vegas & Pintos. There used to be thousands of them running around. Don't think I've seen any of them in years.
Nice ride, there, Brandon   Try not to whoop up on your father too bad! And don't forget to wave at him after you pass him!

my son kept asking and asking "daddy, if you put the belt on it and put a battery in it i can  mow the grass". well, before i left for iraq, a few weeks ago, i bought a brand new belt, battery and oil it all up. it actually mows good. blades are a little dull but the engine is strong and just chugged right through the heavy grass even in 7th gear on that mtd.
