Adjustable 9-1

I was seeing talk on an adjustable 9-1 for IMOW class.  Was wondering what and how this setup works.  Thanx for help

See pulley on the left. By adjusting the pulley you increase or decrease depth of the groove, and thus diameter of the pulley, therein dialing in your gear ratio with some degree of accuracy.
