Been a while since I asked a non-conventional setup question
« on: November 01, 2005, 10:13:26 pm »
so here it goes...  And remember, I'm asking if it -could- be done, not if it -should- be done... I'll never be practical or conventional, so don't try to change me now!  This is all pipe-dream hypothetical here, at least for a while.

I have a Simplicity Broadmoor that is the swivel-vertical tranny setup.  Would it be legal to fabricate a rear transaxle mount that would attach similarly to the original to mount a horizontal type transaxle or in the case of F/X a sprocketed live axle setup?  If so, would it be legal in any of the prepared classes or only F/X? (the latter is my guess)

Asking the questions nobody wants to hear... Planning the mowers nobody wants to tech....

it would be legal as long as it met class guidelines. I can't see it so thats up to your to read the rule book and determine whether it does or doesn't. I.E. wheel base etc....

Can it be done, Yes w/ an older JD transaxle  from a Garden Tractor. Have been doing this for years. As far as legal it is here. We have 2 classes- 1&2 cyl. stock height (no part of frame lower than 8"-wheel widths not over 38") and 2 classes- 1&2 cyl mod. Low (no part of frame lower than 3 1/2"-wheel widths not over 42"). Motor mods open to lawn mower engines only(up to 50+hp) and must be belt driven on pulleys. For 1 cyl classes I prefer kohler 17-18hp verticals modified into horizontal shafts. For 2 cyl I prefer briggs vanguards, but just started on kohler twins looking for their sweet spot.
We normally turn singles between 6-8500rpm and twins 52-7800rpm.

Later, Butcher.
