Size of the tracks
« on: July 18, 2008, 09:08:30 pm »
I'm curious as to the dimension of the tracks in the different Association. The tracks here (Southwest Washington State) must be pretty small in comparsion. our straight aways are approx. 100 ft and about 30 ft in diameter in the corners. What else for track configurations are out there?

150 foot straights, 40 foot corners

I measure each track with a rolling wheel to calculate gearing changes at different tracks

I do Not measure the center line I measure my "racing line" tight in the corners and drifting out down the straights...

While there is always some variation at each track on average I get...

175'-200' on straights from where I would be "getting on the gas" to where I would have to brake to enter the corner...

Then 110'-130' thru arc of corner from where I "enter" thru transition to where I "exit" corner

For and average of 580' to 650' on my running line....

Have had one track at 700 and one at 550 so you can see there is enough difference between tracks to justify gearing changes and and even room for minor adjustments between most average tracks...

That is a nice size race track.
Our tracks up here measure on average about 130-140' straightaways not including any corner radius, and total track length from 200-250' with 30' wide surface. We have permanent clay race tracks and we run on some grass tracks at the paid events.
