They don't have timing belts Jason, the crank gear drives the cam gear so you don't have to worry about the camshaft stopping and the piston smacking a valve.       What are you really trying to get at? :)

What I was thinking was more of if you broke a pushrod.. or hang a valve or something.. is there a chance to have the piston hit the valve ..

Not something like dropping a valve.. but at full stock lift and the valve hangs there.. will the piston hit it?

I know they don't have timing belts Ryan!!!!!!!

With stock heads and deck height and stock gaskets you should have enough clearance. stock Vanguard pistons have a dish in them and with stock head gasket I just don't see you hitting a valve unless it drops.

So if you where to deck it to zero and plain the heads you might run into issues?

It depends on how much you cut off, you would have to use the modeling clay trick to be sure,I think you would want at least .030 clearance with the head gasket. Maybe some of the more better engine builders can chime in and verify.

I know you know they don't have timing belts.  lol   to answer your question if for some reason the valve was held open at max lift and stayed there the piston would not hit the valve with a stock camshaft.
When you get into the wild camshafts and pistons, the exhaust valve will be the one that gets closest to the piston and the clearance there needs to be checked for sure.
You don't want to run a zero deck with these engines if your running a thin head gasket, I like to keep the piston in the hole .010" the stock rods really grow. That's why I changed the stock rods three times last season, they are only good for so many cycles at 7100rpm before your luck runs out.

Yup also if you use the longer rods and flat top the piston even at .020 in the hole it WILL under rpm hit the stock plug and close the gap. BEEN there done that, NGK makes a short reach race plug (don't remeber number) or add another washer to stock plug.

George.. I'm thinking already for next year...and the Kohler isn't gonna cut it.. and the Kohler Command is too expensive to work with...

I'm just curious...learning....

Our super Mod rules limit the mods to the OHV engine so I'm just doing some learning...

Probably just gonna give my money to Ryan and put a Ryker Vanny in next year...

Maybe Ryan can chime in here.... You must remain stock ok BUT can you massage stock parts I.E. lighten and blueprint which is nothing more than super balancing everything. Must you run stock springs?

The only thing you can do to your OHV engine in WOO super mod is: header, air filter, aftermarket springs and retainers, custom header. You can change parts internally as long as they are OEM parts available for the engine model. You can blueprint to factory specs.
