Doesn't matter what grade of gas, The lower the grade the higher tha flash point thus pre detonation accurs. I run a a 50/50 mix of 87 and race fuel in any modified motor I have. And maximum of 30* timing on any motor. I determine that with a degree wheel and dail indicators. AND please don't ask me to explain it. Took me long enough to learn it. Would take even longer to type the explantion out.

going from a 28 flathead to a 31" ohv you will see a difference of night and day. the 31"s have alot more power. just dont over rev it, you have taken the week spot out with the valve springs and keepers. but stock is still stock internally.

Here's what it looks like.

I was running my timing on the 3rd notch (ARC billet flywheel) Do you think a little JB Weld will fix me up???

Are you out of your mind???

JB Weld will never fill that gap!!

I'd suggest fiber mat under the JB, but you'll be good on the crank, looks like a clean break, no gaps to fill.

I made a piston stop out of an old spark plug, then I bolted a degree wheel to the crank and made a pointer out of an old coathanger.Once I had the degree wheel zeroed on TDC I just used an old car battery hooked up to my timing light and started the engine and the pointer was showing where the engine was sparking.

he found top dead center, marked flywheel and set up a pointer for 0 timing. then with an adjustable timing light with the engine running he could adjust timing light to find when plug was firing. read timing light at that point would tell you what degree fire took place.

he may use the degree wheel to mark so many degrees, if timing light is not adjustable.
