Not exactly a lawnmower question, but I'm looking into Briggs horizontal Vtwins as a replacement for my Kawasaki FD620 engine that wont take higher RPMs safely (or so I'm told).

This would be going in a prepped Kawasaki Mule (think early version of the Rhino).  I'm looking to spin about 5500 RPM or so, is this possible in a mild engine build?

In general what kind of engine life can one get out of a modded higher RPM briggs Vtwin?

I have no issues putting a motor together, or making sure my suspension is up to the task, I just have no experience with higher RPM operation of Briggs motors.

Most V-TWINS have great life in them... Most hold up quite well... Hopefully George will get in on this and will be able to supply you with more information.

Personally with the availability of parts the Briggs V-twins are the only way to go. Kawi have no comercially avaiulble parts that I am aware of. I have a race motor Vanny V-twin thats ran 5 hard years of racing with nothing done to it. A tecumseh V-twin 6 years with nothing inside being touched except adding more agressive cam. Treat em right change oil very frequently keep filter CLEAN and they will turn 6 to 7500 for a long time. Thats not getting up to that speed and holding it there mind you this is getting there getting off it then doing it all over again on the next straight.

George, you're running stock rods in that Indian?  Or did I misinterpret?

George, did you just install them out of the box or did you have to rebalance the rotating assembly?

install and go. Never had to rebalance any crank because of installing billet rods.
