I replaced the electric shutoff with a nut from another carb, so I guess I'lll try cleaning it some more. The only problem is that the brass shaft that goes through the whole center is stuck in there really tight, and I pretty much stripped it trying to get it out before.

Just for educational purposes...
I believe the "brass shaft" you are talking about would be the throttle shaft. If you got it messed up then carb is prolly leaking air around it causing a lean condition, which is why you are needing to choke it to get mixture right. Avoid destroying these parts in the future, might save some dough ;)

Thanks Roosterlew, I was just wondering, can you swap those throttle shafts with ones from other carbs? What about single cylinder carbs?

He could be talking about the main jet inside the carb?

I'll get a picture later today, but I'm talking about the shaft running vertically through the center of the float and leading to the shaft that the air flows through.

I'm first going to see if I can save this carb, but otherwise I'm still interested in yours.

If the pictures are working, what I am talking about is the shaft in the center of the carb that goes from the nut on the bottom, between the floats, and through to the top. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Main jet! As long as all the gas is out you can apply a little heat right around it, And you must use the correct size screwdriver, or jet tool or you will booger up the head of it. a cigarette lighter is all the heat you'll need.

So I should heat up the steel around it with a propane torch for a bit, and it'll loosen up? Thanks for all the help guys, by the way!

be careful! I would use a cigarette lighter, that aluminum will not take real well .

That I don't know, but I would imagine it might just have different jetting.
