i have a 700 peerless transmission with the steel input shaft and bevel gear there seems to be an eccessive amount of verticle movement in the
input shaft. i'de like to know what others have dome to correct this.

Should be a thin shim washer and e-clip that holds the shaft down in the case... located out side of case prior to pulley...

Are they both still there...?

should that be an e clip or just on outside snap ring?

On my 700-714 its simply a snap ring...

Yep. E-clip/Snap ring...I use the term and the parts interchangably...
