What is the normal safe EGT range for a 14hp Briggs?

Depends on how far down the tube the sensor is located..

What you are looking for is consistancies or changes as you make adjustments rather than a specific temp...

Randy is right.  Location makes a HUGE difference in readings.  Even the height of the sensor in the pipe will affect the reading.  Try to get the probe as close to the center as possible.

Run it and take readings.  Write it down.  Make changes and take readings, write it down.  Get it?  Each engine is different.

Don't be scared.  I've seen 1480 on my flathead...............................but the entire engine was smoking after that race,  and it still runs!

Around 1230-1260for me.  At 1300 pistons can start to melt.....  My sensor is located about1.5 to 2 inches from the exhaust port i think that is about where the instructions said to put it.  Instructions said to put the sensor tip 1/2 way into pipe.

Yep that is what Digatron says!  Not sure why mine likes it hot?  No burn't piston..........yet!  Could be inacurate unit or..

Could be the Corn gas that I'm running.  I hear ethanol is the devil and it will destroy your engine......................well that's what stupid people say!

What ever.  People used to think the earth was flat too lol.  It would be nice if we could run e-85 way cheaper than race gas. 1480 bad to hot for me, especially with that mag piston in my motor.  How'd your sidewinder project turn out?  Had some chances to try it out yet?
