Then either they are not 1" or the axle isn't 1" or sometimes you have to wedge them open a little to slide them on!!!

Or, you could take a short trip to your local hardware store for a little sanding cloth maybe?

Are they straight cut hubs or tapered??? I've seen some 1" hubs on EBAY but they were tapered.

No.   You will have no way to CLAMP it onto the axle then.

Where did you get these hubs???

Sandpaper is certainly worth the work unless you want to buy another set of hubs.  Are the hubs painted? check the inside.  Are they used, rusty? check the inside.  I have had similar problems with a chrome moly axle that needed a little polishing before the hubs from Acme would go on easily.

Don't get regular sand paper, get some emery cloth (sp?)  Can be found at most automotive stores.  It is sand paper that is on a long roll and about 1.5" wide.  The backing is VERY durable and makes sanding shafts very easy.  You can hold each end and put the shaft in the middle and it won't tear like normal sand paper.

Once you buy a roll you will find thousands of uses for it!

Use a micrometer or a dial caliper on you axle.  I should be snug, but not tight enough to have to drive it on the axle.  Make sure you axle is 1" not a metric size.

The 820 is not metric nor does it have splines on the axle, it's keyed.
