AYP Rally build (Sportsman class setup)
« on: March 04, 2008, 08:10:11 pm »
the mower started life as a Rally plus mower with a 16.5hp ohv and a hydrostatic drive.
i dont really have any pics of the mower in original form(computer crash) but here is a few pics of progress. Alot of things were done with out pics but i still have more to do so i may be able to fill in some blanks as i finish.

pic of frame before modification

the frame in front of the fourwheeler is another 4 wheeler that will be cut up as frame reinforcement.

pic of sheetmetal after sandblast, in building waiting on dry weather to prime.
front axle in prep. it is 3/16 wall- 1x2 tubing with 1/4 plate steel

finished axle with spindle roughly in place.
i have more pics and it jumps ahead abit because i had to get it mocked up for a car show.but i will post those pics later.
i dont think i thumbnailed them right. i will try again with next pics.

here is the front half of the mower on the frame.

this is with the body sitting in place and a borrowed rear wheel just see how it would look.
it just had the front axle clamped in place and the front trim on it. found out i needed a little more room on the front sidepanels, 38" of width don't quite clear.

here is a painted pic with rearend, spare engine and exhaust and completed frontend. it was done to make it to local carshow. now i have to tear it down, put in tranny and drives as well as steering and brakes.Note mower is not running so no safety issues were violated. one i tear it down i will get more picks as i finish assembly as well as what i didnt have pics of in process to get this far. just bare with me. i think i got this pic clickable.THANKS mowdak, i missed 1 step before.

That is a sweet looking mowchine...

I wanted to start with a Craftsman in IMOW, years ago, but everyone told me they were "boats" and to stay away... I went lighter (JD110) but these units are looking solid and competitive...

Nice looking ride..

this one was built heavy. everything bolt on it was 3/8" and the frame and fenders are heavy gauge steel. the grill and side trims are thin so i was able to bend them in to clear the tires for turning. i have seen other Rally mowers that were alot lighter in build but i liked the rear fenders on this one and Toms build helped me make up my mind.

I love my Craftsman. It was a fun project and glad I could share my build with everyone!!!

I'm just finalizing a few things on my Craftsman now (700 tranny, front brakes) and then onto a DYNAMARK PREPARED CHASSIS  BUILD!!  Not sure what class it will become (leaning towards an IMOW right now) but will cross that bridge when engine time comes!
