bigger badder piston coming.
« on: January 27, 2008, 08:52:09 pm »
I've heard throught the grape vine that there will be a 190 over piston. ive that is the case i am thinking you will have to do even more modifications to it like hotter plugs to burn more fuel. does anyone think it will make the twins become bigger and badder than the Briggs. i like the Tecumseh twins better.  >:D >:D >:D >:D

What makes you think they aren't badder already?

What do you mean by "190 over" piston?

I would be surprised if a new piston came out with Tecumesh sold and its future seriously questionable.

But anything's possible with Asia making everything these days...

There are pistons out there already that are .190" over. You just have to know where to find them. Problem with these pistons is that you need to resleeve the block, which ain't cheap. And no, you don't need a hotter plug. Autolite 66's work just fine with any Tecumseh twin.

I would think a higher compression ratio would do more that a larger piston.. the more you can squeeze, the more power you can make at a given bore size...

Here is a good technical article to learn more about plugs and their heat range...remember that sometimes the different companies down share the same order for heat range.. one might be in a backwards order to the other.. so I suggest picking a brand and sticking with it ..

If you use #2 (not 02) welding cable for battery hot and ground, you get a lot more voltage to the starter. And G is right. The Indian starter isn't bad. You can slab the heads a good amount, and the stck starter will still handle it. Easy to burn up with continued cranking, though.

The reason you go for cubes over compression is your main bearings in an air-cooled engine are cast aluminum, and the crank may be of questionable quality ductile iron, especially in some of the Briggs stuff. remember, size does matter.

Where do you get these pistons and sleeves????
I can get the boring and the sleeves put in locally here.
Be nice to have some more cubes.
But would I need bigger valves to make it work???
Thanks
