The ARC wheels are best matched to the Denso High torque starter #808726
Quote
. The 6611-28 or 6611 flywheels are designed as a bolt-on billet aluminum replacement for the cast-iron stock flywheel on the Briggs & Stratton "Model 28" vertical shaft engine.  The ring gear is a replaceable bolt-on piece, and  is made of 7075 billet aluminum, making it considerably stronger than any other present alternative.  The stock electric starter MUST be replaced with the larger Briggs & Stratton starter part number 808726 (which you can order below).  The flywheel comes with the hardware needed to install the larger starter.

no I don't have the bigger starter, someone told me before I bought the wheel that it would work with the stock starter, but I guess they where wrong. One other thing though, the teeth don't even match the stock teeth, are they that different withe the bigger starter? thanks

Yes, they ar quite a bit different from the stock ring gear. ARC flywheel is a bit larger and thicker than oem.

I have one here using the stock long barrel starter with the plastic gear. And its working fine going into its second season with only one starter gear change. It gets rolled back every time before its started. Had to shim it a bit.

I am running a stock starter on my 20hp Vangaurd with a billet wheel without any trouble as of yet, but the motor is also stock, I imagine that when I do to some much needed engine work that it won't last long! On the same token I was out in the shop today putting a billet wheel on a intek twin and I don't know if the stock starter is going to work on it, I mean it turns it over but the teeth don't match up real well! I guess the only sure way is to buy the hd starter and be done with that problem.

I could not use my stock starter on my 31. I had to go with the Denso and shim it out. They do sell ring gears, I had to replace mine cause I tried to use stock starter they are about $85.00 each.

If your stock starter has the steel gear with plastic center core no it will not work. use the plastic gear. while its not a perfect fit it does work. I have done it many times.

Thanks for the replys guys, It is the stock starter with the metal gear on it. I did try to shim it out, didn't help. The teeth just don't match up at all. I think I have one with a plastic gear so I'll try that tommorow.
