K-Series engine for Lawnmower racing
« on: November 24, 2007, 07:29:55 am »
I've been over this in my head a thousand times.. and I think I could make some serious power by use a 10 hp block, horizontal, for a build for a Super Mod Lawn mower racer. You could use a ton of pulling parts.. And it is under the 28 CI rule for unlimited modifications.

But... the engine is heavy and tall.. I would rather use a side shaft so I could use a centrifugal clutch..

Anyone have a suggestion?

Did the horizontal shaft motor come from a lawnmower...???

Would it even be legal to run...??

Most organizations require "at least" the motor to be of mower origin...

Otherwise you might as well use a motorcycle or snowmobile engine in there and get some serious rpm and hp...

I allowed to use a horizontal with a centrifugal clutch in our club for Super Mod.

My garden tractor had one and it cut the lawn, it had a deck.. so what's the difference? I never understood why garden tractors aren't allowed.. they cut grass too...?

Now that you mention it there are a few "tractors" with horizontal motors...

Just don't see too many racing cause most of them are tank heavy and they generally were set up with "over 20" rear tires and wheels...

Ya.. I never thought of that.. I know my wheelhorse has 18's on the back.. way too big for racing..LOL

I'm gonna build a 1985 Wheelhorse lawn tractor.. and I know you can make a ton of power from the K-series engines.. I don't know how many parts could also be used in the vertical single cylinder kohlers..
