I couldn't agree with you more George, limiting the size engine you start with by horsepower is pretty lame because that rating is rather arbitrary.

You are absolutely correct. If it gonna be insisted on HP rating then raise it to match whats being run!!!!

I would just drop the hp rated limit and leave it at type of engine/s for each class.

You gotta have some kinda limit or else somebody would show up with the BIG BLOCK vanny some 65+ cubic inches in stock form... But I argee the HP rating is useless.

NASCAR had the same thing happen when the Hemi's showed up, they put a cube limit on the engines.

We are on the Eve of Useless HP rating to most all rule books. Briggs and other MFG are rating the HP right off the charts to sell motors.
Briggs built the 33 to compete with the Kohler single. It has nothing to do with us racers. But with the rules we have it will affect us in a Negitive way.
Butt you won't get anyone to pull heads or do other cylinder checks either.
Finally I want you all to look at FL and the races they just had and think about one thing. The Law of Physics. Something I preached for years. No matter the size and HP the mower will only get around the track so fast.
So if you look at the FL postings on the times of all the racers that LAW rules.
Go ahead and build what you want. Won't matter much as far as I am concern.

Your right Don, in that lap times are close across the prepared classes, each one faster than the last but not by much. The good thing is that chassis and handling advancements seem to be keeping up with the engine developments.

key words ....Chassis and handling developments!!! The chassis now days can handle ALOT more The big killer right now is TIRES. Pro-x and FX can use real tires and there speeds show that. Just think what a twin could do if we had real tires.... I have run race tires on mine at Talladega and man what a difference they make.

Oh if only Hoosier made lawn tires, of course they'd probably cost 80 bucks a piece.

AMEN BROTHER! the association i run in classes mowers by cubic inches. for ohv engines it is under 30" or 31"+. flatheads are stock or modified, opposed twins are 1 class and and the v-twins are broke down into 3 classes by size. so hp ratings here are a nil point.

And by pumping the motors they keep you in the class you are supposed to be in, makes for very competitive racing in every class!!
OH yea we are talking about the AMRA!

No its maximum ci. and they pump them to verify what the cubic inch is. For example one class is 34 ci. I had a block done for a guy he is on here also, a 16 punched to 20hp pistons stock stroke and its just under 34 ci. They have to pass a blow test to verify there cubiuc inch. Very simple setup doesn't take no time and no tear down to achieve this simple test and its very accurate!!!
