Saw a 33cid ohv single at sears the other day.  It was rated at 21 hp though.  Anybody else seen one and what hp was it?

We just had a thread on this  the other day...

I believe they were 21 hp and up....

And I believe the stroke was the difference....

Stroke is the same as the 28 and 31, 3.06. Bore is different, it's 3.70"

yeah but rumor has it they're 21+ hp rating......uslmra rules state 20hp max!  I'd be interested in playing with one if you can find one that's got a 20hp decal with it!! Maybe we could cee if John Deere's doing them  ;)

Exactly....so why spend the $500 for the motor if all you need is the piston?

Sure yeah that's right. But you are missing one thing.
AVS is AVS is AVS. You mean You can tell me by looking at a motor you can tell me if it is a 33 or not?

lets get it right. its a 33" in a plain wrapper. so if it was decaled or had stickers bought to go on it for a "20hp" then its legal, or maybe if you had a shroud for a 20hp to put on it then it would be legal... or would that be wrong in saying.

If the 31 and 33 Inteks are like the 40 and 44 inteks then yeah there's no difference but a decal and Briggs did another great thing. No difference to the exterior but a decal and internal mods were done by briggs. Can't get much better than that.

What makes the 44 legal is that JD sold mowers that had them but with a 20hp sticker. To make the 33 legal it would have to be sold by someone with 20hp stickers on them if I'm interpreting the rule correctly, don't hold my feet over the fire I could be wrong.

The real point is why the hail even have a HP rule in the first place that is OUTDATED by at least two years. Sticker this or sticker that to a 20 and its legal..... What difference does it make. When is the last time a motor was tore down to check its legality......... Anybody know!!!! Been a long long time. SO do like everyone else sticker it as a 20 or change the model number and run it. Buy the motor or buy the parts and make what ya got the same. 26 kawis and vannys been running for several years now and nothings ever been done now the inteks are too. SO whats the difference. It all boils down to run what ya brung and hope like hail ya got enough.... cause no one really cheaks. And NO you cannot look at it from the outside and say its a whatever size... anyone says they can are..... well we will leave that to your imagination.
