14.5 cam

hey guys, i have a 14.5 ohv briggs that i'm rebuilding but the cam is no good, will a 13.5 briggs flathead cam work. i know ones ohv and the other is flathead but other than that they are the same so i thought i would ask, thanks

Any ohv single will work, but must be ohv!

why is the cam no good?

If the lobes are worn you could use the opportunity to send out to G-Team and have it rebuilt and ground to be a real thumper!!!

Just taking a guess... I'd say it probably dropped a rod, and bent the cam. Pretty common in Briggs motors.

Ew, If he did that I'd be concerned about the block and sump where the cam rides too. Doesn't take much to mess up that soft aluminum.

the engine was torn apart and the cam got rusty, i have another question for ya though i have a 28r707 flathead and a 287707 ohv would the cranks be the same, they look the same, thanks

I think they are. Best way to check is to cross refference the part numbers here http://www.briggspowershop.com/BriggsAndStratton/AdvancedSearch.aspx

You also need the first 4 digits of the type number and sometimes the date code to cross refference parts.
