Dynos
« on: October 13, 2007, 12:02:41 pm »
Has anybody out there built there own Dyno for testing their Engines?
I did not know where to put this post but I thought engines would be the place
because thats what there used for.
I'm working on a program to test these type of engines outputs!
and building a proto type at this time.
Just Curious if anybody done this in Lawnmower racing land
thanks

i was just reading some old post and found this one..so, i thought i would reply.   i have my own hydraulic dyno that i built strictly for comparason when trying  new engine combos... it's the simpliist design that can be really accurate when you get used to it!  you can build one for less than a couple hundred! good luck!

I haven't built a dyno but I have a chassie dyno designed for cars - Dynojet 224 - and I run an automotive machine shop which specializes in race car motors, but I sponsor a few intect motors.  Basically, a hobby.  I have run tests with my chassie dyno and that's about the easiest way you can do it.  Of course, the dyno drum is a little big for the belt-driven lawn mowers, but I can get an accurate peek horse power - you just have to ease in the gas instead of hammering it.  If you could find someone with an atv style dyno I think you'd have a blast.  I have a lot of fun tuning and playing with the dyno.  Good luck!

I have one for the horizonal & verticle engines. It's a must when trying differant combinations, but I have yet had one pass me on the track.Hoss power ain't everything,set-up,set-up & did I mention set-up.A proper set-up chassis will be mow faster with less motor. :dunno:
