The only reason the Vanguard is obviously better, to my knowledge, is because it has been around longer, and there are more after market parts available to fit it.

The Vanguuard is designed with durability and racing in mind. IT is the lightest twin on the market yet the most durable. Best oiling system and for the longest the most aftermarket parts available, Now with ARC jumping in everything available for the vanguard is now available for the intek. While the intek has more cubic inch the vanny provides the best bang for cubic insches. A vanny at 35 built will run with and beat the built inteks even with 44 cubes. The vanny is just simply a better design hands down.

 :woo: WOW that's cold!!
While Vaguards have their place and they have been around and like a Small Block Chevy they have had tons of R&D on them and parts. That's fine.
But Intek's smallest motor is still larger then a Vaguard. Plus they have bigger bore and stroke. Parts too are availible for them from different companies.
I have been in both of these motors and I find that the Intek is the Newly Designed Vanguard. Larger Displacement don't hurt either. While they may be about 5 to 10 pounds heavier then a Vanguard they are sitting here waiting to show what they are made of.
It is much like a 28 CID flat head versus a 31 Flat head. If the 31 is so bad then why is everyone running them?
Most people just like the easiest path to travel. Vanguard parts are everywhere. Pick up a phone and build what you want. Intek don't have but me building them. I believe in them. And very soon almost everyone will be running them. Why? Because they are on everything under the sun!!! I have not seen a Vanguard motor in a mower...................for years. Money talks.
So in short if George raced a Weed Wacker motor you all would be looking for them wouldn't you???

Yep!

Like you said..Vanguards are like the small block Chevys...PROVEN

...and if George can win championships on a 2 stroke Weedeater 31cc engine...I'd try it as well!

Yeah... but it's hard denying a 454 anything!!!

They all have to be proven, good or bad.

And, I know for a fact George drives a Dodge so.... :D

Well my Inteks are winning all around you.
WI just had a Intek win the BP class!!
Sooner or later
Don
PS You have to remember one important thing about the Weed Wacker motor. George would have won no matter what. It has Nothing to do with the motor he runs.

Hey Tom,
Just remember. George won all those Championships on a Vaguard before Inteks were even being raced.
Also he does not run them anymore. He runs Tec. Motors.
Technoligy is always changing.
There are three hot motors out there right now.
Kawasaki ( Sorry  for the smelling it wrong )
Tecumseh
Intek
And not in that order either.

I know your right on that Don.....It's just the availibilty of parts for VG just makes it easy to make some HP.  Haven't compared pricing yet...but my guess is that the VG AT THIS TIME is most likely the most econmical route to go to build a 40HP+ engine.

I'll run the VG for a this season and see how I like the power. I've heard that the TECH have some serious torque!!

Not to sure on the weedwacker engines...may try those someday as well!!!

Like you said Don....The driver makes the win. Not always the engine.

I'm going to have to give my 2 cents here. Vanny's are just as fast of a motor and anything out there. There's a kid that does all of his own motor building here in WI and is just as fast as the rest of us. And let's not forget about Tom Ast from FL. He runs a Vanguard. He run's a Herrin motor & chassis and is just as fast as any racing in the nation and on somedays the Fastest. It's not just Tecumseh, Kawasaki and Intek, Vanguard is right up there too!
I'll run the VG for a this season and see how I like the power. I've heard that the TECH have some serious torque!!

As for that statement...The Tecumseh's do have SERIOUS Torque. So much your problem is going to be transfering it to the ground. Last year I ran a GTeam Intek and this year a Bertrand Thunder Twin. There is a difference. The Intek doesn't produce the torque as much as the Tecumseh does. Last year with the Intek I had to switch to smaller rear tires 15x6.5x8 to keep my wheel speed up high enough to exit a corner. I also got a friend/fellow racer who also ran an Intek to swtich to the smaller tires. Makes a world of difference if you're not making as much power.  So this year I figured the same tire would work for the Bertrand Thunder Twin. I was wrong. I'm burning those same tires up every 2 races and that's with rotating them after each race! There's so much Torque with these motors you're spinning half way down the straight away on Blue Grooved tracks. So you'll need the 16x7.5x8 rear tires if you're planning on switching to a Tecumseh next year. The saying's True, There's no Replacement for Displacement. Especially when you're getting 50+ C.I. of it.

Darin, thanks for the flowers! BTW, Tommy Ast ran George's Thundertwin in Tennessee, and I do believe you may see another convert next year. And lest anyone think the Tec's done on developement, let me tell you, there are BIG things coming for next year.

Bert
Gary Busey and Rick James both used to live in my shop. Redline stole them.
