Smaller tires
« on: July 09, 2007, 02:20:15 pm »
Hey everyone,
I was looking at my mower today and noticed that I need to lower it. So I was looking at the mower and noticed that I can lower with the transaxle that is in because the wheels stick out beyond the fenders. My question is can I move them in on the axle and then lower the transaxle or buy smaller tire and then move them in on the axle?

Thanks,
Mike

IF you take a look thru the racing mower build section you will see on MY CRAFTSMAN B/P build that the rear fender assembly was raised 1" to give better clearance for my tires. If you plan on keeping your transaxle, you will need to set it deeper into the chassis. You will need to install a jackshaft set-up as well because once you lower the transaxle into the chassis your ENGINE to TRANSAXLE pulleys won't line up. Thus the use of a jackshaft comes into play.

Take a look at the builds and SEARCH the forum for jackshafts and such. You may even decide to go with a live axle set-up!
