That video is awsome!   although, I bet he would have reached 100 if he used a 700 trans instead of the 820

I disagree...  :)

I run an 820 on my BP and the things are bullet proof.  If I got a chance to make the run, I'd do it with an 820 also.

I was curious about that. I run a 5 speed Foote now which seems to hold up fine for now, but the things have to be babied to death. They dirty the tranny oil really fast. Are the gears in a 820 steel?

If i had the money to run a 820, i would too because i know how tough they are.  I was thinking towards how with a 700 you have alot more gearing options, so you could gear it perfectly to reach 100mph.

You can gear an 820 for 100+ mph...  I had done the math before, but I'm not sure on the pulley setup right now.  I'll have to redo the math again. :)

Go to the bonneville salt flat web site and show me where the lawnmower set a land speed record!!! Just because it is sadi to be a record doesn't make it a record. To be an official record one of the things that makes it a record is it's is open to anyone to try to break that record. TRY to get the bonneville personel to allow you to take a mower to the flats to break the record. Won't happen. I am not taking anything away from the fact he went as fast as he did but it simply isn't a record. What is WAS was a great media hype that got Stabil tons of publicity. Show an official bonneville record book with it in there and Then you can call it a record. I ran 91 but do I call it a record NOPE..... Sure don't even though I had witnesses. And yea a 700 can do it as well as a 820. Any day of the week.

Nope.

I've been in touch with quite a few people out there and none of them will let me.

Tried a few other places also... no luck.

104 octane boost probly got everything set up for him to race there. Even that video, you can clearly tell is to promote 104.

If I remember what I heard correctly, he ran with a group of motorcycles who had the salt flats for the day.

But I agree with George, it isn't a record if no one can challenge it.  I think anyone with a decent BP and some big balls could beat his record.  :)

That and a little know how that George, Bert and I have discussed in the past.

80mph doesnt seem like it would be that hard to beat. Maybe someone else should try to go with a bunch of motorcycles,  see if that works.

There was a streamliner (thats a missle with no more than three wheels ) had the facility rented for some testing for the up coming speed weeks that was rained out that he knew or someone knew. Oh and it was registered as a 4 wheeler not a mower thats how it got the chance to do it then the media was alerted to what he was doing which resulted in mass coverage for 104 (STABIL). That was the intentions and since it was videod why not call it the land speed record. Records are public. You can look at them on the net. There is no land speed record made at the salt flats made by a mower. And that was a test day so there was no certification crews there to make it an official anything. Call what it was a great publicity stunt but to call it an official world speed record is simply another publicity stunt/gimic
