well, I am trying to get a press-on cap kill switch, but the tech man for our organization's nephew's mower has the same system. that is what i have for now, but it still isn't as fast as the press on cap.

I have a cap switch in my shed right now collecting some dust.I had the slide switch and went to the cap thinking I could shave a second off my starting time.I quickly found out the problem wasn't the switch but the person holding it.I would let my mind wonder and think about the first corner, or is the guy next to me going to bump me getting on, or am I going to fall on my face one time getting across the track, anything but focusing on the switch itself and that thing could have been 3 inches wide and I couldn't find it.
I think everyone has had an experience like that at some time.
Practice in the back yard by running across and putting the switch on.You don't have to crank the motor, just practice in full gear so when your at the track it is like second nature to get it rolling.

i know its good practice like you said, but i'd love to be your neighbor, sitting on my back patio watching a guy in full race gear running back and forth on and off of his lawnmower!
Gotta love a good 'ol Briggs Flathead!

They're ok with it...

They already know I'm a little strange so it almost goes unnoticed.

do any of you guys use the system where your kill switch is on the end of a piece of metal on a hinge, and underneath of the piece of metal is the starter button, so when you press down on the kill switch to lock your cap in place, you also push down on the starter button? And is this legal?

actually, a while back there was a guy that hand made them, when you "clip" your tether, you'd press down and engage the starter, it was a really cool idea until he revealed the price  :woo:

In the closeup of the kill switch it is clear that the dash is starting to rub and or cut the steering column, you really need to put a bearing there.

when we put the steering together, i had to cut a little notch in the dash, so it hasn't rubbed a hole in it. but your right, i need to figure out a way to make that part smoother.

Get a flange bearning for it, and bolt it to the underside of the dash with carrage bolts. Or you could weld in a single bearning.
