hooking up a tach

hey guys
i hooked up a jr dragster tach on my bp and when its runnin under 3000 is gets really jitterey is there any remedy for this

Did you diode isolate the tach so it is only reading off one armature. MUST be diode isolated or it will be irratic and possibly even twice the rpm you are actually turning.

i just hooked it to one of the coils
where do i get one of these isolators

any electronic supply store, radio shack tell you need a 1 or 2 amp diode voltage don't really matter, you are simply using it as an isolater.
