10 hp briggs and stratton
« on: April 25, 2007, 06:01:20 pm »
Hi everyone,
Being new to the sport brings me with alot of questions about motors.
Ok I have a 10 hp briggs and stratton motor. This motor hase been tore down for block cleaning and boring because it was smoking and larger valves. My first question is how big can i make the valves? My second is the 10 hp is a 22 cid motor I belive. So how big can i bor it out to 28 piston or 31? My third is if I have some one make a flywheel for me using 7075 billet since I will not have any more magnets inside the flywheel can I run a msd blaster 2 coil instead of a stock coil. Being that the blaster 2 coil would give it more spark.

Thanks for the thoughts

You will be money and time ahead finding a 28" 12hp block to start with and forgetting the 22" 10 hp..

No parts and too small to start with...

As far as the coil question...which organization are you running with... ??  Some allow it and most don't ....and even then it depends ion which class you plan on running...

You might be able to make the motor a \\\"stroker\\\" if you put a 12 hp B&S crank along with a shortened rod. You would have to do a lot of machining to get the crank to fit in there. You could also try adding more duration and lift to the stock cam...other wise there’s really not a whole lot for those 10 hp\'s. Squidd is right, try to find a 12 hp, just my 2 cents….

If a 22ci motor is all you have I say build your chassi and put the stock 22ci in there and run IMOW for now until you can find a good 28ci for SP or an OHV to run in CP.
just my 2 cents

Well here it is I have a 12.5 briggs i/c motor i am currently working on for my build to run in my craftsmen for c/p. But this motor is my whole experimentla type thing for doin all the little tricks port and polish stroker, valves , ec billet retainers and springs, custom rod, the coil by msd and deck the block and so on. And are you positive i have to have a rod made. I thought you could just flycut the top of the piston??

Yes i understand that. But I am out to find a new way to build a good motor like for example heres my knowledge of building a race motor. Port and polish, enlarge valves, bore the motor out, stroke the motor, have a arc rod,put lift on cam, run dual springs, use billet retainers, i perfer to run a thiliston carb with a custom intake. Also run the brass counter weights. Also for this expermental motor i would run a flat head with a head strap. And use ct-2 coatings from www.calicocoatings.com.

expermental motor

Now you just said it was an expermental motor , HOW ARE WE SUPPOST KNOW WHAT IT"S GOING TO TAKE OR DO ??? Your the one that's buildin it , RIGHT ???

I think If I were you I would probably do a little more reserch on how these motors are built before you go blowin up the only motor you have , OR do the real smart thing and call George or Don and save your money to buy a REAL RACE MOTOR !!!!!!!!!

Also suggest actually "reading" the rules...and get your class's straight...

Not in S/P or C/P or whatever class you "think" your gonna run...:noplease:
