That may be your best bet. The tube over the axle is good idea, but there is still a point in the middle where you lose support, and you're loading a ton of stress on that side... outside wheel, brakes on that side, major offset to that side. Would likely be better to run your axle tube out there further to support everything, move the brake outward as well.

Can you get away with manufacturing a tube for it?? Or, do you have to stay with stock mower parts on the transaxle??

Yes I can run a tube for support. Most things that will make a build safer is ok.

I have 2 other 600's to work with. and 13 days to go.

I will look in to maybe putting the break on  the left side and supporting the right.

While I shift more axle to the left.

Yet another thought :tard:  I could build a spacer between the case and the long axle housing support!
Say a 1.5 inch thick piece of aluminum for a spacer??   or should it be steel?
I can make that and then use longer bolts into the case??
Then with a shorter axle  I hope to be fine.
Now tell me what you think.

I think that'll move you out an inch and a half, but... is that going to be enough with shifting the axle left?

If you were to relocate the transaxel over to the left a little you would gain some weight on the left side and get your axel supported alot better . I know why you have it all the way to the right But I think the weight of the transaxel would give you the same effect as that if relocated to the left side of the mower .

I just finished my 600 the other day. I run a 36 inch steel shaft. It seems to be working just fine for me.

We're not saying it won't in some cases. Knowing what kind of power this racer is generating, what kind of speeds he's turning, understanding his set-up a little before seeing the above picture, and knowing where he had planned to go with it I can tell you without reservation a 3/4" steel axle isn't going to stand up.

Are you running that much axle beyond the right tube?
Do you weigh 200 pounds?
Are you turning 30+ mph?

Do you come out of the corners like this??

My point is, I know how hard this guys drives, and a 3/4" steel axle isn't going to stand up! Look closely at how many tires are on the ground. Notice which tire is on the ground.... Need I say more?!

Well guys i spent the last few hours figurin out my camera and how to get a link to the pic's , HOPE THIS WORKS

http://www.kodakgallery.com/Slideshow.jsp?mode=fromshare&Uc=1jl5nknh.9y3pi8jx&Uy=-sv3zhd&Ux=1

Now keep in mind that the hubs are NOT set to the legal width , there just on there to hold the thing up for now , BUT you can see how much better the axel is being supported buy the longer housing and the blue hub is for the break rotor ( just haven't got that far yet ) .

If the link works I will post another one that explains what I did to put the one piece axel in it .

HA HA , it worked !!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

Another couple of looks at the way I set-up a transaxel , NONE of the bracing has been added yet just went threw some pics and this is what I had sorry none with it done all the way .

you see Last year I tore up shift keys. I read a lot here "HeyMow" and found out a 600 is a good tranny.
I picked up a few 600's Did more reading and thought that I would have it made running a 600 with Chrome Molly.

But test and tune always works best. Right?  But during a race is not the best time to find out your flaws in your perfect plan.

I have my tranny tore down and have been studying my 2nd perfect plan.
I have considered both long support arms for the axle. looked at shifting the tranny more right but still perfecting the plan. Even thought of a left side brake set up.  something like your showing crocco58

Yes Rocky, I run as if it was my last race everytime.  And more than 1 time last year I had a bent right axle!
Thats why the Chrome Molly this year.

I agree Rocky a minor enginering problem yet to be fixed. And you can be sure I will get er done!

So far I am happy with the 600.  Just have to get the axle part working and I will be off mowing grass!
This mowchine is a family thing and we have fun doing it!

Thanks to Don's mowtor skills it runs well.
If you make the picture "see rocky's post" larger you can see the right tire is still diggin!
Yes a lot of pressure on that dang axle!!

Hi, I was just wondering what any of you guys are using for bearings in those housing extensions. The original bronze bushings, or is there a better deal ? Thanks, Louis
THANKS,  LOUIS

Hey Louis,

The 600 has factory needle bearings installed.
I clean and repack mine with fresh high temp grease during assembly.

So Yes it's a better deal!

Honestly, you need to talk those guys into kart style axles Ronal. With your weight, the power you're generating, and speeds you're reaching, you're going to continue having problems. Pretty much everyone does with the 3/4" axle.

If I'm not mistaken that is why the USLMRA allows them, everyone else had problems with the lighter axles too.

I would like a Kart style axle, But we can only run a transaxle or if so originally equipped, a chain to a rear axle.

I really like my 600. Seems like it will hold up to my driving habits.

That is why I used a cover tube over my axle to the tranny. I wanted the support. but you know it broke just inside at the bearing. I checked the bearing it is ok to run again.
I know what I did wrong just have to correct it now.

Give me a little time and I will post a pict of my new set up.

Really want to thank everyone for pointing me in the right direction!

Really don't want to have to go hunting for a 820 series.. then rims too!
