Are cast iron sleves an advantage, or does it just sound good?

Cast iron sleeve is better, but to the best of my knowledge it has nothing to do with the sound of the motor.

Cast iron sleeves are a necessity if you want a race mower to hold up, however... if you're looking at boring and sleeving it anyhow, it makes absolutely no difference, aluminum bores machine easier because you don't have to bore the old sleeve out of it.

If you're running stock, by all means make sure you have a cast iron sleeved motor. If you're planning to build, it's pretty much irrelevant.

By sound I meant does it sound impressive and not perform any better. From what you guys have said, my dad picked a nice engine package when he bought this thing, but he couldve done better on the trans... He got the hydrostatic instead of the manual if thats what I should call it, and if it had the manual it wouldve had a peerless 700 in it... :noplease:

According to the manual and google, it could've had a peerless 700 in a front engined mower. It had a peerless hydrostatic in it.

Cast iron is more durable and wear resistant than aluminum...Therefore as Mowdak1 said cast iron is the way to go...I am assuming by sounding good, you are not referring to the tone of the engine, you are referring the the "Bling factor", like chrome dipsticks!!
