« on: April 13, 2007, 12:30:43 pm »
hey i got a 50s firestone mower and its got a 5 hp bottomshaft briggs.the thing is - its got a 1 inch crank! i have never seen a 5 hp with a 1in crank. i was wondering if it would be possible to put the crank out of a 8hp briggs in this engine?

No don't do it. Almost all 8 hp Briggs come with a 1 inch crank anyways.

yea i know that but if u put in an 8 horse crank the stroke should be longer and it would be a stroker 5 horse!

but why waste your time "suping" up a 5 horse, when you could be working on that 8! :bash:

its only useless if you plan on using the engine. If its just for a project,go nuts you'll learn lots and have a cool little project engine.

yea half the reason to build it would be to see how it would turn out.and if that crank brings the piston up to zero deck or higher itll have alot more compression than any 8 horse and then with the right cam and a tuned carb , p&p ,and a few other tricks it should have more than 8 hp!

most 8 and 10 horsepower motors came with 1 inch cranks. Actually for a fact if you can find a 10 crank you can stroke you motor and get some more horsepower out of it. 1.523 is the size of a 10 crank
