I have learned so much from this forum, I feel obligated to share some photo's of our latest build (K & G Racing-Brookland,Arkansas)
Please bear with me until I figure this photobucket thingey!

We were in a rush because our test and tune date was closing in on us fast! My poor buddy has the only mig welder in our bunch so needless to say we have been very busy!  I decided to go with a completely new chasis at the last minute, so we went from grass cutter to rolling race chassis in one afternoon therefore I did not get any "BEFORE" pic's.

Here you can see the 1.25" angle we welded in for frame rails and the tranny plate we welded to it.

Here you can see the upper steering support which will utilize a 5/8 heim joint for the steering shaft. A GREAT idea from Mowman Racer


And here you can see the lower heim mount. It is mounted at a funny angle because we were making room to the right of it for a full size battery

Well thats all for today, we are through with the build so the thread should move pretty quickly next week.  I am going to Memphis for the weekend but will get back to it when I get home.     Dave

That's like the cleanest chassis I've seen. Mine was absolutely filthy after all the welding. By the way- are those supports made from old retail store displays? I noticed they were chrome plated, which made me wonder where they came from.

Those supports are all plain old mild steel tubing, that's been wiped down and clean dude! There ain't no chrome on that stuff!!

you know... after looking at the photos more carefully, you're right. The camera flash makes them look pretty shiny. see? I'm willing to "fess up"!

Well had some time this afternoon so I thought I would share a few more pic"s.
Here is the clutch we fabricated from 1/4" x 1.5" steel, nuts were welded to it so we could later install 3/8' bolts for belt retainer's                                 
Here I was trying to demonstrate the clutch action

Here is a shot of the bottom, nuts were also welded to the tranny plate for belt retainer bolts. (another great tip I learned here= George Herrin)

I am going with a 6" front pulley initially but I wanted to make some type of movable front belt retainers in case I want to go to a 7" or 8" pulley later. This is actually something I thunk up on my own :D

Here you can see the fender/seat supports,I needed something strong, I'm a pretty big fella :oops:

Yeah Dave , I really like that idea - Probable going to have to try that out on my sisters build , I haven't got to that point so now I don't have to think abought it to much . THANKS !!!!!

Time for some more pic's

Here you can see we carried the frame rails all the way back to where the bearing hangers are welded to the frame.
next we bolted and welded the back plate to the sides, this will make for a very strong set-up considering how thick the Craftsman chassis is to start with.


Amazing what a couple of cans of Krylon will do!



The 700 prepped and installed.



Brake caliper mounted using two pieces of angle iron.



New fittings installed on used caliper.



Bearings installed.



Sprocket, idler, and #40 chain installed.  10" brake rotor should provide good stopping power.

Well this is the part where I get carried away building!

In these first two photos you can see how well the heim joints support the steering shaft.

Upper


Lower


Here the floor boards were mounted so I could get on with rigging and bleeding the brakes before the fender is mounted, making access to the caliper difficult.
You can also see a little of the front axle, I like the function of the "ACME AXLE" although I do put better bearings in them.


Some shots of the bottom. I added a 3/16" x 1.5" cold rolled steel along either side of the chassis to stiffen the chassis.  P.S. Don't tell my wife her picture is on here, she would kill me!







The heart of the beast! 20hp Briggs Intec with ARC rods,flywheel and a custom built cam from ISKY.






Here she is installed! The youngest man of our bunch (and Best Driver) Kyle is a great welder and exhaust fabricator!

Just curios, what are your pulley/sprocket combos??

By the way looks good...

I like that green SP, I have a friend that has a mower just like that it came from the factory called "SUPER RIDE"...

Very nice Dave !!!! and I got something out of it , I haven'tt built a mower witha clutch in a while so that belt guide trick is going to work nice . THANKS
