So i got my peerless 600 all in, got everything hooked up and it goes into 1st,3rd,and reverse but not 2nd gear... what can cause this?
Oh by the way it goes "into" all of the gears. only 1st,3rd, and reverse "work" though.

on my 600 in my mtd sometimes it doesn't want to go into 3rd so i just let off on the clutch a bit, and then it pops right into gear. I thought i read somewhere that 600's are non-synchro, so mabye that has somthing to do with it, or mabye your shift keys are in rough shape.

Just trying to help,

Did you have it apart and if so did you make sure you have the spacers in-between the gears correct, because if you inadvertently switched them you will never find second gear.

If you place the large gear (no bevel) on the shaft then short spacer then 2nd (bevel toward large gear) then longer spacer and finally small gear (again bevel toward middle gear) it will work unless something else is out of place, If you don't already have a manual from the files section on the Yahoo group site. http://f1.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/4LoPRrbHzXs52x38HfqeMNhGajLyYIQTJYj-jBJdrRAZkURLnqhBg_vSzA_Vb6OHVZwVc7jibtOaQq_6WUXe2LYmxaliK2buopQ/691218%20Peerless%20Repair%20Manual.pdf
