HUGE BORE !!!!!
« on: March 17, 2007, 04:59:53 pm »
On friday my shop teacher was telling me about a guy that took a 2' by 2'
block of aluminum and would mill out custom mower and go-cart engines
with an 9" bore and around a 5" stroke :omg:, liquid cooled of course, and very expensive.
thought i would share some info,

Your shop teacher is pulling your leg.  Do you know how heavy a 9" piston would be.  I've heard of the jr dragster guys building custom blocks but you can't in USLMRA.
Ask you shop teacher what kind of crank can handle that piston.
If you produce a pic I'll believe you, untill then...........................................................I ain't buying it!

The only engine I've seen that had anything like that was in our old antique engine club. One member had an 1908 Fairbanks Morse that was 20 Horsepower, 4 foot wide dual flywheels, and an enormous 7" piston. One of those old engines that was used to hook up belts and run machinery with. He hauled it in on a trailer. It was also a hit-and-miss engine which meant it only fired every 4-5 revolutions. So it's be running along then suddenly fire, which would almost make the trailer bounce. Looked something like this:

Nip it in the grass!
