Automotive brake calliper
« on: April 16, 2018, 08:21:19 pm »
Has anyone used a brake calliper off a small car on their mower? I was in our local Motorsports shop today and their price on dirt bike, scooter, atv, etc brake setups was ASTRONOMICAL compared to the price on automotive stuff. And kart stuff is about the same price before shipping as the automotive stuff.

If you have, what kind of car did it come from? Obviously the smaller the car the more reasonable sized the calliper is going to be I would think.

The only problem would be the rotor. Going to be pretty good size and adapting it to fit on the axle.

The rotor will be an issue.  It will be heavy and hard to mount.

Find some used cart stuff.  Used brake parts are usually cheap.
Check out new MCP stuff.   It is reasonably priced and is good stuf.  You can get a complete kit for $180

So you don’t think I could use the car caliper with a Non car rotor? Such as a sprocket or similar?

$180us after shipping, duty, conversion etc = might as well buy the ATV brake bundle I was looking at today. Which I will probably do unless I can find an atv bone yard to scavenge.

Most of the kart brakes I’ve seen available online say they are rated for 150-250cc, the engine I’m looking at is rated 724cc, will a kart brake have enough stopping power?

There no kart track around here so used stuff would be hard to find, and :censored: farmers toss their dead equipment in the field/pit never to be seen again.

I still have a bit of time before I’m ready for it, so I can’t still think on it, just want to weigh all mom options.

The car caliper requires a much thicker rotor.  So the standard cart rotor won’t work.

Look up Carrier Performance, he is in Canada.  I bet he can help you with duty/shipping costs.

Small engine guy in town pointed me to here where I was able to find what I need.

https://www.chinapartsdepot.com

They are Vancouver based, and pricing is in Canadian funds.
