From what I've read it seems that the stock sleeve on the 38ci can be bored .050 over but is there any pistons available in .030/.040/.050 over or do you have to have custom pistons made for these sizes?

Call Briggs, and ask if they have any overbore piston for their 40 cube. The 40 intek has the same bore as the vanny, and it should be a direct replacement
