Valve lash specs
« on: August 27, 2017, 04:11:52 pm »
Valve lash specs for the Briggs OHV 28ci seem to run all over the place.
I have seen recommendations of intake: .oo4 and .003. exhaust: .006..004
A small engine mechanic told me he sets both at .003
This is a stock motor. What works for you guys?
Thanks in advance

Most all small engine specs for stock valves call for .004-.006.
or .005-.007...... So I just set everything at .005.

Valve lash set, good battery and connections. Will still not spin past compression. Engine spins free with plug removed. Suspect internal compression release on cam?

Good call. If battery tests good with load test, and starter passes a test as well.

valve lash more than likely is not set proper, set lash with piston 1/4" past tdc, there is videos on youtube, this is common description on engines with lash not set proper

Sump off of motor. Spring is broken on release lobe. Do you have to buy the entire cam  or can you buy a rebuild kit?

This is ridiculous! You have to buy an $80 cam to get a 50cent spring
