Vanny 23hp Heads
« on: October 18, 2016, 10:57:03 pm »
I've been reading a few older posts on here that recommend using the 23 hp v twin  heads on a 16hp v twin for better flow & volume. My question is how would I identify 23 hp heads, do they have any unique markings, the reason is i have a couple of spare sets of heads that were given to me but the previous owner wasn't sure size engine they cam off?
thanks
Grant

The 38 will have a round intake port and the others have a "D" shaped intake port.  Most vanguard heads will have there cubic inch marked in the valve cover area.

It is easy to see when 23 HP heads are on an engine, the top of the exhaust port is about 1/2" from the valve cover, the lower HP heads have the port much lower
