V-Twin Coil setup with kill switch.
« on: October 16, 2016, 11:58:39 am »
Do you need to do anything special on a Briggs & Stratton Intek V-Twin model 44 engine for setting up the kill switch? Can you just tie both coils together to the kill switch? I thought somewhere on the forum someone had said you need to put in resisters on both lines before tying them together to the kill switch.

You need a diode wire between the coils- it isolates the coils and keeps them from cross feeding. briggs part number 844547-692319-.

NOT RESISTERS, DIODES, THEY ARE DIFFERENT. DIODES ARE LIKE A ONE WAY VALVE, YOU HAVE TO INSTALL THEM IN THE CORRECT DIRECTION.

OOPS....you caught me typing without thinking...read the op and then reiterated the resistor part...yes, you need diodes!

Ok thanks guys for the replies. I will go to RadioShack and pick up two diodes for my motor. Is there a specific voltage I should get or not buy one that is rated below a certain voltage ?

Also if your kill switch has four post on you can just run two wires from each coil and you don't need diodes I had diodes fail a couple times so I hooked mine up to my 4 post kill switch and haven't had any problems
