What Briggs motor do I have???
« on: September 21, 2016, 05:44:02 am »
I picked up a craftsman lawn mower for the frame and it has a red top Briggs and Stratton 19.5hp I/C turbo cooled over head motor in it. It's not a vanguard. What exactly do I have here? And can I buy rods, pistons and performance upgrades for this motor? Not sure what to look under or what this motor is. Thanks its a opposed boxer engine. what parts fits this from arc??

I'm pretty sure what motor you have, but give us a model and type....there's a tag with these numbers located on the blower cover (big red thing).

That is a 42 cubic inch Briggs opposed twin (AKA "oppy"). Not certain if it has an oil filter on it, but if it does, it would be a plus. Those motors can be built to run very well. Contact EC Carburetors or ARC Racing Products for aftermarket performance parts.

In your first post you had said it was overhead valve. Opposed twins are valve in block.

It is a 42ci opposed twin ,by the numbers you gave it is not a pressured lubed engine.
I have most of the parts you need for it,I ran that very same motor in 2013&2014 two national championships and won the All American when we visited in 2014.

Ed is correct it is not OHV ,it is valve in block motor

PJG56, that's correct sorry its not an OHV motor.  you were saying that you have most parts that I need for it? used parts? or what parts exactly? I would be interested in purchasing your parts if you would like to sell them. let me know thanks
