Home made dyno ideas
« on: September 12, 2016, 09:11:07 am »
Hey guys, I'm looking for ideas on how to make a home made dyno of sorts. I'm not looking for extreme accuracy. Just a way to test motors to see which ones are stronger.

I am thinking something like a treadmill maybe with something like a car altenator attached to it and a read out of how much voltage the alternator  is putting out. In theory stronger voltage would be more hp.
Not sure if that is a valid idea. Let me know what you guys have in mind.

Hydraulic pump, flow meter, bunch of hoses and a reservoir. Pulleys and belt, clutch able. Needle flow control. That's all you need....lol.
Gary Busey and Rick James both used to live in my shop. Redline stole them.

Bert always relied on my patented "butt dyno".
Accuracy was not guaranteed, but it was always spectacular.
I also believe he had a formula to calculate horsepower and torque based off how hard my impact with the earth was upon crashing.
Those where typically spectacular as well.
