George Herrin passed away last night 8/19/2016
« on: August 20, 2016, 08:54:35 am »
Guys I got some bad news George Herrin passed away last night. I don't know any details Larry & Jeannie just told me. He'll greatly be missed by his friends and racing community. Our prayers go out to his family.

I've been out of mower racing for a few years, but I must say it is amazing all of the people George has helped, nationwide, throughout the years.  I'm out here on the left coast, but received advice from George over the phone, and here on heymow.  I don't think anyone realizes how famous this man truly was, and I guarantee his wisdom will live on for years.  His family should take great pride in knowing that.  Rest in Peace George, and thank you for all you have done for so many people.

Such sad news.  Dana Young of WOO sent me a message this morning to let me know and there are so many racers and former racers here in Ontario Canada who are deeply saddened.  George was an very knowledgeable, competitive, encouraging and humorous gentleman whose presence at any track will be missed for many years.  My thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family.  Rod and I had the pleasure of meeting him at the King of the Hill race in Talladega in 2008 after having purchased many parts from him and late at night internet chats.  Rest in Peace George and rubber side down.

In case anyone didn't know, that's George's picture in the upper left corner of this website.  George has been a good friend to me since before this website began back in 2005 and supported me when I needed it.  He has helped this community so much and he will be missed.  He used to have a signature that said something like he wanted to finish this life with the feeling of "Man!  What a ride!"  I think he did it like nobody else.

I talked to George one time on the phone and honestly felt like I was talking to a celebrity! I was hoping to meet that man someday. Hopefully I'll race him in heaven! Prayers to his family.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming...... WOW..... what a ride.
Lord, bless me with victory.  If not, bless me with the sportsmanship to accept defeat and the courage to say,  " I'll get em next time.... AMEN

George  Herrin will be missed very badly , I have met him  several times, first that I met him, he talked to me as if he had knew me for years.  He was friendly and very knowledgeable  about his sport.

I met George when he came to Canada to race,I don't think he liked me much because I helped Ryan Kerr to beat him, other than that he seemed like an alright guy and he will be missed   R.I.P.
