do you use a mechanical clutch if you have a centrifugal clutch?

No.
Gary Busey and Rick James both used to live in my shop. Redline stole them.

I think I know what you are referring to..... the clutch was used as a tension pulley setup.
There was not a pedal to depress it..... just had a spring to keep it tight.

Depends on what gear ratio you are looking for. With a 700 trans and 16" tires, the most common crank pulley will be a 6 or 8" pulley, however, with a centrifugal clutch, they generally don't get much bigger than 3" so that will limit your speed. The trans pulley needs to be over driven by the crank.....this means you will need a smaller trans pulley, and that means smaller than 3", and when you get much smaller than 3" and pushing any good amount of power, you will have belt grip and belt lifespan issues. I would recommend using a crank pulley instead of a centrifugal clutch as it will broaden your selection of gear ratios........unless you are doing this for a fun little project that isn't going to be used for competition.

The builds we do here are for competition on a track. If it is not, then this is the wrong site.
