700 Peerless output shaft chewed through houseing
« on: December 13, 2015, 09:04:16 pm »
This has happened to a few of our 700 series boxes, any suggestions as to what it might be?
I'm wondering if the chain is too tight.

What are you using for lube?  That might be part of the problem.  You never want a chain tight.

Are you using a bras bushing!!! It should be and not the silver ones. Also a chain when properly tightened should have a 1/4 of play up and down in it. And from the looks of it your lube is too thick and not properly lubing the bushings.

Thanks George

I've just been through your catalog and see there's make a recommendation on lubrication.
I run the brass bushes which we pre-treat by soaking them in warmed oil and allowing it too cool.
The chain has about 2.5cm (1inch) of play in it.

I'll try your lube recommendation and see if that changes things.

Also a Merry Christmas from Ivan Huntley & Linda Lambass. Ivan's had to give up the racing due to his health, so I have his old motor in my mower.

Merry Christmas to you all

Great idea Ron, unfortunately I'm half a world away from you in New Zealand.
Freight would be the most expensive part.
Cheers

Kiwi, Better idea yet, Let me machine a set of E.C.  trans cases Lots better cases than perless as of the alloy their made of. Only one way freight. Will cut cost in half in freight alone. Trans case, labor for work, freight. won't break the bank. Just a thought. Ron.
