Might be a dumb question, but are you running a fuel pump, and if so, pulling your pulse off the intake?

External fuel pump, yes pulse is pulled from the side of the intake. I read somewhere that the pulse fades at high rpm. I thought of running  T in the pulse line putting one line where it is on the intake, and a second one tapped into the top of the velocity stack. My only fear is losing pulse with a T. Has anyone ever tried something along these lines?

Since this thread started as a timing question there is one neat thing I would like to share. I always recomend useing a degree whell and light to check timing, however on a flattie you really don't want to pull the head to find TDC. On some engines I worked on in the military they had two crankshafts, one on top and one on the bottom, the pistons upon reaching the end of their stroke formed a "head" (the bottom crank led by a couple of degrees). In order to check wear we would use soft lead with a wire melted into it, stick it through the injestor port and crank the engine over. We then miked the "crush" and knew from the last time how much wear in the bearings we had.

Point is: take a lead sinker, flatten it a little after you insert a wire through it and put it in the spark plug hole until it's above the piston, rotate the crank until the lead stops it, go backwards noting on the degree wheel, split the difference and you have TDC without removing the head.

Huh. I just took an old spark plug, knocked out the center and cut off the ground strap. Threaded the center for a bolt and used that as a piston stop to find TDC. But, that wont work unless the plug is over the piston.

OPPYS HAVE THE SPARK PLUG IN A STRANGE SPOT.THEY COME IN AT A FUNNY ANGLE ON THE END OF THE HEAD ON THE VALVE SIDE. YOU WILL NEED TO PULL THE HEAD TO FIND T.D.C. THAT TRICK WILL WORK ON SINGLES!

This trick will work on a oppy, the lead is atteched to a bendable wire, you can put it just about manywhere in the bore

I HAVE NEVER DONE THAT BUT IF YOU WERE CAREFUL AND WATCHED IT CLOSE I CAN SEE IT SHOULD WORK, THAT IS A LONG WAY IN.

Invest in an EC Dominator, it is the best bolt on part you will buy. I run an oppy with tons of mods done to it and feed it with a Dominator.  It does have a different cam than yours but I turn it over 7k.  These engines do like a lot of timing though when you turn them up. Remember the plug is like 2 inches from the piston lol.
