Intake and after market air filter for oppy
« on: June 14, 2015, 02:46:07 pm »
Ok I have a two piece aluminum intake. Would it be better then my cast iron intake the two piece looks like it has bigger runners. My oppy will be going on a super stock mower next question. I seen a filter set up on here that have a big square filter said it was what he used on his intek it was a k&n filter . Im looking for a way to run a aftermarket air filter with out drilling my carb to vent it. any pics or help with this will be greatly appreciated

Not sure about local rules, but I'm not sure you can run an Opposed Twin in the Super Stock Class. I dont think they allow twins until the Mod X Class...

Yes, vent the carb, otherwise you will have issue .
If you quit when you're behind, you will never win.

I have found the two-piece manifold to be the underdog of the twins. Nobody liked them, simply because you had to re-seal them occasionally. So what, they were more efficient than the big iron log.

There ARE single piece cast aluminum out there, if you are just wanting to save weight...

As far as an external vent, drill and tap just under the air cleaner surface for a small barbed brass fitting, you can find them on RC car websites, or ebay. be sure to have a short hose and filter to the vent. These carbs HATE contamination. Do not use a rock-style filter, as there is too much resistance, and won't vent properly.

Where to drill?  You'll have to look at the casting to determine that yourself.

I see that you started a new post for the same topic?  I'll just reply here, since it's the original thread.

You need to CAREFULLY drill through the first casting wall. DO NOT drill completely through the carburetor as you suggested.

Keep looking, as there are plenty of other pics, at least there were when I was racing these 100-pound nuggets.

Sorry about that was in a hurry . but that's one thing I found out about building a racing mower is not to get in a hurry with it. take your time and make it right
