27hp Command V Twin high speed misfire.
« on: April 14, 2015, 07:36:44 pm »
Hi all, my first post here, I am based in U.K. and information on racing Kohlers very hard to find here. My Grandson is racing a Kohler Command Twin on a Go Kart, so far we have fitted Billet Conrods, converted to solid lifters with adjustable pushrods and stronger valve springs, also fitted ARC aluminium flywheel and Briggs coils so pretty well blown our budget for this year. Also running twin carbs. Keihin 28mm flat slide. Our problem is it will not Rev over 5300 , starts to misfire slightly and just goes flat, we idealy want to get to 6000/6500rpm, this does seem to get worse later in the races (heat related?) Initial acceleration off the line is great and pulls well out of turns.
Do you think a better cam would help, have seen that Hackman 275/256 has what we need but don't want to spend if not needed.
Any help or ideas welcome. I have tried email to both Zach Kerber and Lacota racing but had no replies, one more question(for now) what ignition advance would you recommend we use, as I said information hard to get over here so hope someone can point us in the right direction.
Thanks.
Peter

If your running the stock cam that is your issue.

When did you email Zach?    He hade been busy and may have missed it.  Or he didn't get it because your from a different country.  Try him again.  He can get you a cam that will fit your needs.

Thanks for reply , it confirms what I suspected, will have another go at contacting Zach then start saving hard because the postage and custom duty really ramps up the cost over here.

That Hackman cam you mention is a very nice addition to your current engine. It will get you more rpm than your looking for and has a great powerband.

Thanks FlatheadPuller, do you know if there is a website for it or an e-mail address where I can get more info as it sounds interesting. Have been in touch with Zach Kerber and have been given one option, a little more expensive than I wanted but good, it does not hurt to explore other possibilities and info hard to find in UK.
