Timing issue
« on: March 16, 2015, 08:16:47 pm »
I had my engine, an 18 opposed briggs, running before I put it in a garage for storage all winter. Now the time ing is off and exhaust comes out of the carb when im trying to start it except for the occasional large puff of smoke out the exhaust. Having fireballs come out of my carb is exciting and all but Id like to get my engine running again. Does anyone know how I fix this?

Sounds like a sticking intake valve... timing doesn't go off just sitting still over the winter.

I recently replaced the flywheel so I checked the key. A backfire had sheared lit etting the flywheel spin a quarter of a rotation before it got stuck again. This is what caused the issue thanks for the advice though.
