briggs / tecumseh
« on: March 14, 2015, 05:26:15 pm »
This might be in the wrong spot, if it is I am sorry.

I am building a BP for someone that will be running a Tecumseh v twin however.

I don't have his engine and it will be a couple weeks before I can get one to use for moch.
I was hoping to get the clutch and belt routing done this week end and was wondering if a briggs single cyl has the same foot print and crank location as the indian twin?

Anybody know for sure???

Thanks in advance for the help.

I went from a Briggs single to a Tecumseh single with no belt, clutch or pulley changes. The twin Tecumseh has the crank in the same location as the single. As far as I know, you should be fine.

Actually, redline is correct about the briggs single vs the tec single being identical.  the twin however, is rotated 90 degrees when you look at the mounting pattern in the sump vs the "front" of the motor.  I think you would have your crank in a slightly different spot.  Please correct me if I am wrong here.  I just remember trying to fit a tec twin on a jd 111 and remember that the mounting holes are in fact different.  I would have had to re-drill 3 of the four holes for mounting in the motor plate to accomodate the twin.....

It uses different mount holes, but the crank ends up in the same spot. At least on the one I swapped.
