ARC rod,bolts
« on: February 15, 2007, 09:27:48 pm »
In my 28ci flathead I have an ARC billet rod.
I was looking up new bearings for it on there web site and noticed that they offer new rod bolts as well.
Are these neccesary to replace, like a cars head bolts would be?Or are they just offering me an oportunity to loose a couple.

Rod bolts should be replaced at every application! But have got by with out it several times. when you retorqe the rod both you should be able to tell if there strechted! Be your own judge about the situation.

I prefer a little more torque on the big bolts (5/16-24).  More like 33 ft lbs.

The small bolts (1/4-28) are torqued to 170 inch/lbs

Dunk the whole bolt and washer in oil before installing.  Change them every other time you change bearings.
